Autism Spectrum Conditions and ADHD training - 6th and 7th July 2017

Post by j.c.kitson-jones » Wed Jun 21, 2017 12:02 pm

Autism Spectrum Conditions and ADHD training - 6th and 7th July 2017

The Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) team are running 2 training days on 6th and 7th July for staff working with students with ASC who need to know more. We attach the training specifications for you to have a look at.

DAY 1
Focuses purely on ASC, the history, core areas of difficulty and problem solving. It will be a useful day for staff to attend who need to know more, no prior knowledge is assumed. It aims to build knowledge and empathy for the condition. It is sufficiently detailed to meet the DSA QAG requirement for ASC training. That said, attending day 2 would be helpful for staff working directly with students with ASC on a regular basis.

DAY 2
Focuses on ASC and ADHD. The ASC component uses case study, to focus on the core cognitive differences that are part of ASC, it also looks specifically at supporting distressed students. Understanding ADHD is also important given the number of ASC students who also have ADHD (whether this is formally diagnosed or not). Additionally, the ASC service is increasingly working with students with ADHD and there seems to be a growing number of students studying at Swansea University with this condition.

Please contact Sara Hounsell (s.a.hounsell@swansea.ac.uk) if you would like to attend. Refreshments will be provided.

Each training day will run from 10am-3pm. The venue is to be confirmed.
